Ohana Dachshunds

Ohana Dachshunds is a small, family breeder based in Western Australia. The dogs are Jess’s passion. She has been breeding dachshunds for over 30 years, beginning when she was a young girl in Illinois, USA. Her parents were very supportive of her love for dachshunds and allowed her to whelp and raise dachshund puppies. Her first litter was in 1992.

In 2013, Jess moved from the USA to Perth, Western Australia. She brought her old dachshund, William and her old chihuahua, Brodin, with her from the states. When William passed away Jess had a difficult time finding a longhaired dachshund puppy in Perth. She then decided to begin breeding again and imported her dogs from the USA to be the first breeder of genuine, longhaired, English Cream Dachshunds in Western Australia.

Ohana Dachshunds strives to breed the most beautiful dachshunds with exceptional health and temperaments. All of our dogs are DNA tested with Pawprints Genetics or Canine Health Check, out of the USA, to ensure that they will never be PRA positive (a form of blindness that is easily prevented through genetic testing and selective breeding). The health of our puppies is of the utmost importance. We work closely with our veterinarian to ensure that each dog and puppy is happy and healthy. DNA profiles of the parents will be included in the Puppy Packs. Our puppies are also wormed every two weeks, they come microchipped, sterilised, with their 6 and 12 week vaccinations and a Puppy Pack.

Our puppies all go through the “Breeders Bootcamp” socialisation and training process to ensure that they have the most wonderful temperaments for their forever families. Breeders Bootcamp was put together by veterinarians, canine behaviourists and breeders to help puppies transition to their new homes. We raise the puppies in home, as all of our dogs live in our home, play on our sofas and cuddle with us. This means the puppies will know common household noises, such as a vacuum cleaner, the television and the radio. They have access to outdoors and will learn to go outside for the toilet.

All of our dogs are purebred miniature dachshunds. They will come with copies of their parents pedigrees or family trees.

Please note the wait for a cream puppy is much longer than our other colours. There are a few reasons for this: One, at this stage we only have one female genetically capable of producing cream litters. Two, our cream litters have been small. Three, the demand for cream puppies is very high. For example, we get ten or more inquiries for a longhaired cream puppy every single WEEK… we had only four cream puppies in all of 2020 and again, only four creams in 2021.
